One arrested in mother-daughter murder case
New Delhi, Feb 22 : A 23-year-old youth was arrested in the double murder of a woman and her daughter inside their home here and has confessed to the crime, police said Friday.
The accused, identified as Nadeem, was detained from his hideout in Vijay Vihar Thursday night and was later booked for murder after he accepted the commission of crime.
Yasmin, 34, and her daughter, Sufia, 5, were found killed with their throats slit in their first floor house in west Delhi's Vijay Vihar Sector-1 area around 2.15 p.m. Thursday.
The culprit also tried to burn Yasmin after slitting her throat. She was found in a pool of blood lying on the floor of a room while her daughter was found dead on the bed.
In his confession, Nadeem said that he had worked for sometimes with Aslam Ali, husband of Yasmin, and used to visit his house occasionally.
"To fulfill his need of money, Nadeem entered victim's house to rob it. He strangled Sufia to death when she saw him stealing Rs. 1.25 lakh from an almirah inside the house. He later slit Sufia's throat with a knife. After that he strangled Yasmin and slit her throat to make sure she was dead," said a police officer.
"To erase the clues, he poured kerosine oil on Yasmin's body and set her a blaze and fled with the cash and a mobile," the officer said, adding that the robbed materials have been recovered.
Aslam Ali, a building construction-cum-plumbing contractor, found his wife and daughter's dead bodies in his house after neighbours informed him about smoke emanating from his house.
Aslam, who married Yasmin in 1996, has been residing on the first floor of the house with his family for 25 years while there is a garage on the ground floor.
