By Hemanta Kumar Nath, Shillong, Feb 19 : Addressing an election campaign rally at Jowai in Meghalaya, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that India has urged Bangladesh to take concrete steps in preventing illegal migration specially in the North Eastern region by crossing border.
"Hope, we will reach a satisfactory solution and solve the issue," Gandhi said.
On the other hand the Congress president stressed about the illegal mining issue in the hill state.
"Illegal mining is a major issue in Meghalaya, which is a threat to the environment of the state. To prevent illegal mining and save environment, our government has already taken some measures," Gandhi said.
She said that, the Union government will contribute to more development in Meghalaya.
Moreover, the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will visit Meghalaya on Feb 21 to campaign for the party for the assembly poll in the state, to be held on Feb 23.
"Rahul Gandhi will take part in three election campaign rallies in East Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and RI-Bhoi district," a source of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee said.
