SPIC MACAY Spring Fest plans Mohiniyattam circuit

Dehradun, Feb 17 : SPIC MACAY Spring Festival 2013 plans series of Mohiniyattam circuit by Padamshree Bharti Shivaji from February 18 to February 20. The youth of the hill state would get inputs about the exquisite and graceful dance form of Kerala from Bharti Shivaji, who is India's top Mohiniyattam dancer and has played an important role in taking this artform to an international level, SPIC MACAY spokesperson Diksha Unyal said here today.

A rare combination of performer, choreographer, author & Guru, Padmashri Bharati Shivaji has undertaken research in Mohiniyattam under a fellowship scheme from the Sangeet Natak Akademi. For further research, she received yet another senior fellowship, from the Dept. of Culture, Ministry of HRD.

She has been awarded 'Padmashri' for her tireless efforts, devotion & commitment to the cause of Mohiniyattam. She was also felicitated at the Theatre De La Ville, France, by the Mayor of Paris for popularizing Mohiniyattam, ensuring its place on the world map. She is also the recipient of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Bharti Shivaji would be accompanied by Shyamla Bhaskar on Veena, Sreekumar on Edakka, Jyanat Das on Mridangam and Rajgopalan on Vocal, Ms uniyal informed.
