Ex Goa minister grilled over PWD scam
By John Edwards, Panaji, Feb 16 : Goa's former controversial minister Churchill Alemao underwent an extensive interrogation in the office of the Anti Corruption Branch Friday night for his alleged involvement in financial irregularities in tendering road works.
The ACB, investigating the scam also involving a suspended PWD engineer P T Parkar, had summoned the Congressman "to respond to certain queries" while he held the Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio during the Congress regime.
Parkar during interrogation said that road works were sanctioned based on Alemao's directions.
The case of discrepancies in 18 Divisions of the PWD and that 214 orders amounting to some Rs 60 crores issued within 24 hours by PWD's Division VI is being investigated by the ACB officials.
Alemao is also being probed in a series of other cases including the Goa State Cooperative bank loan waiver scam, fake certificates racket among others.
Just before he made his appearance before the ACB yesterday, the former minister had applied for anticipatory bail in yet another unlawful assembly case at Varca, in South Goa. The Court while denying him interim relief has kept the matter for arguments on Feb 18.
