Opposition boycotts Odisha governor's address
Bhubaneswar, Feb 14 : The BJP and the Congress Thursday boycotted Odisha Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare's address on the first day of the state assembly's budget session.
As soon as Bhandare began his address, opposition BJP members stood up and tried to disrupt him saying he had no moral right to address the house since his five-year term ended Aug 20 last year. The members also staged a walkout.
Within a few minutes, Congress members too stood up and created a noisy scene. The governor requested them to allow him to perform his duty.
Without paying heed, opposition leader Bhupinder Singh made a parallel speech in which he accused the government of failing on all fronts. He then walked out with other members of the Congress.
The 30 working day session of the assembly is scheduled to conclude April 6 with an interval from Feb 26 to March 7.
Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya is scheduled to present the budget Feb 19.
