Comedian Raju Srivastava vows to give happiness to all, if elected
Ahmedabad, Feb. 13 : Comedian Raju Srivastava, who will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Kanpur on a Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket, on Wednesday said that his sole motive is to give a permanent smile to the people of the country through his new innings in the political battlefield.
The ace stand-up comedian, who has entertained audiences with his impeccable comedy, said the people of this country have given him a lot of love and admiration.
" I used to get Rs. 50 for a programme. I began from there and I am a down to earth person. Till now, I have entertained the people for a very brief period of time. At times I have made them laugh for around half an hour or at times for an hour. But now, I want to see a permanent smile on their faces. Now, I want to be in the middle of the people and strive for development. I want to give back to the people whatever they have given to me," he added.
Srivastava further lauded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's style of working.
"My love and brotherhood has been with all the parties. I have done shows for all the parties. I was even called for Modiji's functions, functions of the Congress Party. As an artist, I went almost everywhere. And now, I came in contact with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, saw his style of working. He is very forward looking, thinks as per today's scenario. So, I thought to join him and work together," said Srivastava.
"I will never leave doing comedy because this has given me recognition. It has given me everything and you people are here to meet me only because of my comedy. Comedy gives happiness for a brief period of time, but if I take firm steps through politics (for the people) then the happiness can be everlasting," he added.
To a poser on whether he was ready to take on Union Coal Minister and Congress MP from Kanpur Sriprakash Jaiswal, Srivastava said that he has not yet thought about his opponents in the electoral battlefield.
" I haven't though about who is contesting against me. I have decided to work from the bottom of my heart. I am aware of all the problems of my city and the entire country because I keep on visiting all the places," Srivastava said.
"Big politicians move around in closed cars and stay in air-conditioned rooms, but I meet all the people and so I am aware of all the problems and miseries. So, it doesn't matter to me as to who is standing in front of me," he added.
Srivastava further said that he would do his best to serve the people of Kanpur and the entire country.
"There is problem of road and electricity in Kanpur. Unemployment is also there. I will try my best to serve the people," he said.
Srivastava shot to fame with shows like 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge', 'Comedy Ka Maha Muqabala' and 'Laugh India Laugh'.
Srivastava, who was also one of contestants of 'Bigg Boss' Season 3, has also acted in a number of films.
