Sri Lanka to organise fair like Surajkund Mela
Chandigarh, Feb 12 : Fairs like the Surajkund International Crafts Mela would also be organised in Sri Lanka on the same pattern.
Addressing the media persons at Surajkund today, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Prasad Kariyawasam said that discussions would be held with Surajkund Mela Authority. 'Sri Lanka' day was celebrated in the fair today.
He said that this fair would not only prove economically beneficial for both the countries but would also promote the traditional art of handicrafts. "Also, to have good relations with a developing country like India is a matter of great significance for Sri Lanka," he added.
He said the Haryana government had provided the artists and craftsmen an international level platform.
Comparing the cultures of both the countries, he said that Sinhala language of Sri Lanka was quiet similar to Sanskrit and Pali languages spoken in India.
Both the countries had equal devotion for Buddhism, he added.
He said that although Sri Lanka and India were two different countries, they shares similar cultural heritage. He said that maximum number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka were Indians and similarly, India was a first choice for Sri Lankan tourists.
