Teachers of northern states to join national strike
Hisar, Feb 12 : The college and university teachers of north India would join the stir and support the national strike on February 20 and 21 by holding two-hour dharna and wear black badges in the institutions throughout Punjab, Haryana, J and K, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
This was decided in the meeting of Associations of University and College Teachers of these states held at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana on Sunday.
The meeting was jointly presided over by All India Federation of University and College Teachers'
Organisations(AIFUCTO) Vice-President Prof Jagwant Singh and Punjab Federation of University College Teachers' (PFUCTO) President Dr H S Kingra.
Stating this here today, AIFUCTO Zonal Secretary Prof Attar Singh said the main demands of the teachers included implementation of UGC recommendations in toto specially, implement career advancement scheme (CAS) uniformly in all universities and colleges of the states, additional increments for higher educational qualifications like M Phil, M Tech., LL M and Ph D, grant post of professor in Colleges, raise retirement age to 65, fill up all the vacant posts in universities and colleges and sanction new posts as per present strength of students, stop contractual/adhoc/Guest/part time appointments, pay justified salary to already appointed
contractual/Guest/part time/adhoc teachers, increase funding of universities and colleges of the state.
University and College teachers Associations from Punjab, Haryana, J and K, H P and Chandigarh had participated in the meeting. It was also decided to hold next meeting in J and K.
