Yagya performed for stampede victims at Kumbh
Kumbh Nagar (Allahabad), Feb 12 : 'Yagyas' were performed for peace of the departed soul of 37 devotees who died in a stampede at Parmarth Yagyashala in the mela premises.
The evening prayers yesterday turned into a mourning ceremony, where prayers were performed and tributes paid to the deceased worshippers.
On February 10, 36 people had died in a stampede at Allahabad railway station, following holy bathing on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya at Maha Kumbh. Several others were left injured in the mishap, of whom one succumbed to his injuries today.
A large number of devotees, both national and international, took part in the yagyas at Parmarth Niketan's shivir of the Ganga Action Parivar at Arail ghat last evening.
Bollywood actor Preity Zinta and MP Priya Dutta, who is the duaghter of veteran actor late Sunil Dutt, also reached the Kumbh mela and took part in the yagyas in memory of Sunday's stampede victims.
Preity Zinta also took a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya and appealed to the people to keep the Ganga river clean under the campaign of Ganga Action Parivar. She also distributed blankets to the needy at the Kumbh mela.
