Police arrest gardner for sexual assault
Panaji, Feb 7 : Ponda police have arrested a gardener for alleged sexual assault on a 4-year old nursery student in the school premises at Usgao in Central Goa.
Ponda police said gardener Vinod Mascarenhas (37) yesterday sexually assaulted the minor school girl when she was playing in the garden during school recess.
The police said the incident came to light after the kindergarten girl complained of disccomfort in her private parts after returning from the school.
The gardner Mascarehas was arrested following a police complaint lodged by the child's parents after he was identified by the girl at the police station.
On check up, the doctor observed that the victim had suffered a deep abrasion, caused by nails of the culprit, on her private parts and girl could have been sexually assaulted.
The police have registered a case against Mascanenhas under section 354 of the Indian penal code, section 8 of the Goa Children act and protection of children from sexual offences act. 2012.
In another incident in the capital city, Panaji town police arrested A 60 year-old man for allegedly molesting a 26 year old woman in a moving bus in the city. The police said Chicko Joseph Anthony, a native of Kerala who worked in Goa, was caught by bus passengers for following the woman and molesting her while standing in a bus proceeding to Panaji market.
Despite being told by the woman to be away from her, he continued with the same act. When bus halted at the market bus stop, the woman raised an alarm following which the other passengers apprehended him and handed him over to police, who arrested him and registered the offence after woman lodged a complaint with the police.
