Jaipur, Feb 6 : The five-month-old baby, who was severely hit by her drunk father and lost parts of her nose and lips, succumbed to breathing problems after battling with her life for ten days at a government hospital here, said reports on Wednesday.
On Feb 1, the baby successfully underwent the first of two major face reconstruction surgeries.
However, she was kept in the intensive care unit as a precautionary measure.
The second surgery was scheduled to be carried out a month later.
"The baby developed respiratory complications last night. She was put on ventilator, but could not recover," Chairperson of the Rajasthan Child Rights Commission Deepak Kalra, was quoted as saying.
The doctors were hopeful about the baby whose dunk father had allegedly attacked her on the night of Jan 26 and bit off parts of her nose and lips.
The mother reportedly filed a police complaint which led to the arrest of her father.
However, the mother was thrown out of her home by her in-laws for going against her husband.
Police said the father will now be charged for murder.
The woman and her two daughters are the residents of Bikaner, which is 400 kms away from Jaipur.
The family was being looked after by the woman's 70-year-old father and the Rajasthan Child Rights Commission, said reports.
The commission has reportedly assured it will continue to help the family and try for strong punishment for the father.
