Markfed's turn over crosses Rs 20,755 cr

Jalandhar, Feb 4 : Punjab MARKFED has done a whopping business of over Rs 20,755 crore with the sale of its edible items and processed food products.

Stating this here during the launch of new products of the MARKFED, Jarnail Singh Wahid, chairman of the cooperative giant said that nearly 21 processed food products manufactured by the different canneries of the MARKPED were in great demand not only in India but also in abroad. These products include spices, pickles, grinded red chilly, turmeric powder, sarson da saag, kabuli grams and many more vegetables and cereals which are ever ready for eating purposes.

Dr S K Sra Managing Director of the MARKFED said that one more cannery would be set up with in a radius of 15 km in Jalandhar to enhance production of processed food, processed vegetables besides a unit of mineral water.

He said that this cannery would be a modern cannery which will market its products in more countries than it had been selling products currently. He said that presently eight processing units were functioning in Jalandhar, Khanna, Nawabshahar, Macchwara, Bagha Purana, Kapurthala, Giddarwaha and Mohali employing more than 2000 workers.
