Sukma, Chhattisgarh, Feb 4 : Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has said that the Centre is ready to hold talks with the Naxals if they are ready to shun violence and represent their area by adopting democratic process.
Mr Ramesh, who was here yesterday to ascertain the reasons for the work under the Prime Minister Rural Road Scheme not making progress, told reporters that a new policy for laying roads in naxal-affected areas would be announced in a day or two.
"Under the new policy, road laying will be divided into two parts. In the first phase, a 'kutcha' road will be laid in the initial stage as Naxals oppose laying of 'pucca' roads," he said.
