Port Blair, Feb 4 : Andaman and Nicobar Police have started screening all vehicles passing through Andaman Trunk Road (ATR) for tourists, as Supreme Court has recently banned ATR for all Tourism Activities.
Subsequent to the interim order of Supreme Court, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration had imposed a total ban on tourists on the Andaman Trunk Road (ATR) that passes through the Tribal reserves.
On January 21, 2013, the apex court had banned tourists from taking the Andaman Trunk Road, the lone National Highway of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, that passes through the area where the Jarawas live.
As per the order, the ATR can be used by people residing in settlement villages, government officials and other road users including those who transport goods and services to the settlement villages in North and Middle Andaman district.
