IED blast on Assam railway track
By Hemanta Kumar Nath, Guwahati, Feb 3 : : Suspected militants triggered a powerful explosion on the railway track targeting Garibrath Express passing through Assam's Kokrajhar district on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.
According to report, a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was exploded on the track near Kuwamari area between Gossaigaon and Chowtara railway stations in Kokrajhar Saturday midnight.
"After the blast the railway track was fully damaged," a police official said.
"Suspected militants triggered the explosion targeting Garibrath Express, but the IED exploded before the train arrived at the area," police said.
Top police and railway officials had rushed to the area and the railway engineers began repairing the damaged track.
On July 8, 2010, at least seven people, including the train driver, were injured when five bogies and engine of the Kolkata-bound Garibrath Express derailed after NDFP militants blasted railway track between Gossaigaon and Chowtara railway stations in the district.
