New Delhi/Jaipur, Feb 2 : Named the new chief of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Rajasthan unit, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje Saturday said she will work to strengthen the party in the state ahead of the upcoming polls.

"I welcome the party's decision. BJP is a family. We all have to be together. Everyone has a role to play. We will all strengthen the party in Rajasthan," Raje told reporters in Jaipur.

BJP president Rajnath Singh announced her name as the new state unit chief in Delhi.

Raje will lead the party in the assembly polls scheduled in the state this year and would be its chief ministerial candidate in case the party returns back to power.

"The polls will be contested under her leadership. Gulab Chand Kataria will lead the party in the state assembly," Rajnath Singh told reporters.

The Congress currently rules the state under Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Top leaders cleared Raje's name at the BJP's core group meting in Delhi Friday.
