BLACK COFFEE stirs the soul of Kolkata

By Gourab Gupta, Kolkata, Feb 2 : Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) here was witness to a music concert, "BLACK COFFEE", on Friday where the performance was led by Mayookh Bhaumik, an Indian percussionist and an electronic music artiste.

"BLACK COFFEE" at the Satyajit Ray auditorium of ICCR was a combination of Indian classical music and hi-tech electronic sound production. The concert continued to move people for one and half hour. People were found to acknowledge the talent's performance after the show.

The ensemble featured Mayookh on tabla and electronics with vocalists Ishita Chakravarty and Kinjal Chattopadhyay and Sarangi virtuoso Alla Rakha Kalavant.

Mayookh Bhaumik has just bagged the National Award for Best Film Score for the Bengali film LAPTOP.

Mayookh has also a large list of gurus, who he has trained under, like Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh, Ustad Sabir Khan, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Ustad Zakir Hussain.

Mayookh is a global musician who has collaborated with jazz musicians like Derek Trucks, Jeff Sipe, George Brooks etc.
