Shinde acted like a Pakistani agent: Balbir Punj
New Delhi, Feb 2 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Balbir Punj on Saturday attacked Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for his "Hindu terrorism" remarks and said he has acted like a 'Pakistani agent'.
Punj made the remarks a day after India's main opposition party on Friday said it would boycott all meetings convened by Shinde and show black flags to him until he apologised for his remarks.
"Shinde has committed a grave crime. He has not acted as the country's Home Minister but more like a Pakistani agent," Punj told media.
"He should not only resign from the office but a case of sedition should be filed against him," he said.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav backed Shinde and said the Union Home Minister would not make 'baseless' comments.
"The Home Minister and the Home Secretary will not make baseless statements. The BJP is trying to save the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh)," Yadav told media.
The BJP's decision to boycott all meetings convened by Shinde was taken at the first core group meeting of the party after Rajnath Singh took over as party president on Jan 23, reports said.
"The Core Group observed that Mr Shinde's remarks have hurt Hindu sentiments. It condemned his comments that the BJP and RSS run terror training camps. The party has decided that its members and workers will boycott all public programmes in which Mr Shinde takes part," BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar said.
Triggering a controversy, Shinde last month said: "Training camps of both BJP and RSS are promoting Hindu terrorism. Whether it is Samjhauta blast or Mecca Masjid blast or Malegaon blast, they plant bombs and blame it on the minorities."
He made the comments at the Congress Chintan Shivir in Jaipur.
