FIR against then Sheikhpura SP in police brutality
Patna, Jan 29 : An FIR was lodged against the then police superintendent of Sheikhpura, Babu Ram in connection with the brutal torture of a youth Mukesh, a local liquor trader by the police at the office-cum-residence of the former police superintendent Babu Ram of Sheikhpura district
Superintendent of Police, Sheikhpura, Menu Kumari said here today apart from the then SP the FIR was lodged against liquor Mafia Shailendra Kumar alias Mantu and some unidentified people involved in the mercilessly beating of the youth under various sections of the IPC
She said the FIR was lodged on the basis of the statement of the injured victim Mukesh who had stated that the police arrested him and took him to the residence of the then SP and beat him up there brutally
She said the investigation of the case had been handed over to the DSP Jamui headquarter Md Abdullah
Meanwhile, following the direction of the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar the two member inquiry committee comprising ADG (headquarter) Ravindra Kumar and Jail IG Anand Kishore reached Sheikhpura yesterday and began the probe into the incident
Both the officers visited Barbigha police station and interrogated the officials concerned. The team members also met the family members of the affected youth and took stock of the situation. The team would submit its report before CM Nitish Kumar
Meanwhile, the agitated people protested in Shiekhpura where the life remained out of gear during the day. The irate people demanded immediate arrest of the then SP and action against the guilty people

Earlier, taking serious note of the police brutality against Mukesh at the residence of Sheikhpura Police Superintendent Babu Ram inflicting serious injuries upon him, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had removed the SP and instituted high level probe into the incident
Apart from the shifting of the SP, all of the police personnel deputed at Barbigha police station were also removed
The police in civil uniform had arrested Mukesh (21) and his brother in law Rajiv on January 24 from Barbigha chowck in Sheikhpura district allegedly for selling illicit liquor
Later, the police forwarded Rajesh to jail and took Mukesh to the SP office were they beat him up brutally
Mukesh sustained serious injuries who was later admitted in the ICU of the PMCH where the doctors termed his condition as critical and said both of the intestines of Mukesh were badly damaged
