Agartala, Jan 29 : Political situation turned volatile after the arrest and then unconditional release of Tripura Pradesh Congress president Sudip Roy Barman's elder brother Sandip from his brick kiln at Jirania, eastern outskirts of Agartala

Police said Assam Rifles jawans had conducted a search in the shed of the kiln last evening and recovered a pistol with eight live cartridges and some Bangladeshi currencies and detained Sandip and two others

Later, all of them were released on personal bond after preliminary investigation that failed to establish the link of arms with the detainees, said the officer-in-charge of Jirania police station adding that investigation was on

Terming the incident a conspiracy of the ruling CPI(M) against the Congress, thousands of party workers demonstrated in front of the residence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at night. Agitations continued across the state today

"An effective poll promise of our party and a huge exodus from the ruling party to the Congress has left the CPI(M) disheartened and compelled them to hatch a conspiracy against our family," Sudip stated
