Briton held in France for murder, sexual assault
London, Jan 29 : A 32-year-old Briton was arrested in France after a woman was found to have been sexually assaulted and stabbed and beaten to death, a media report said Tuesday.
The man, who was not named, hails from Chatham in Kent. He lives on the outskirts of Nimes town in southern France, the Daily Mail reported.
Police launched a manhunt after the semi-clothed body of 34-year-old Tunisian immigrant Joudia Zimmat was found. The mother-of-three was reportedly killed while she was out jogging.
Teachers at her children's school raised the alarm after the woman failed to turn up to pick the kids up. The children are aged three, six and nine.
The woman appeared to have been badly beaten, and suffered blows to the face and neck.
A post-mortem examination revealed she also suffered knife wounds in the attack.
The report said the suspect has hand injuries "consistent with bramble scratches" and the woman's body was found in a thicket of brambles.
The man's clothes are also said to have been covered in blood.
The Briton was arrested from the southern city of Montpellier, and is alleged to have left evidence at the scene of the crime, a prosecutor said.
