By John Edwards, Panaji, Jan 29 : The Goa government has decided to offer temporary relief to the owners of fishing trawlers in the state, who have joined the indefinite strike protesting the diesel hike, till the matter is resolved at the Centre.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured on the floor of the House to grant fishing trawlers 'government subsidy' on the diesel purchased in open market.
"The protest is all over the country. We will try to ensure that our fishermen are at comfort and do not suffer due to the hike imposed by the Centre," he said responding to independent legislator representing Velim constituency Benjamin D'Silva's concern over the strike.
More than a thousand trawlers at five major fishing jetties have suspended their activity to protest the Rs 11 hike on diesel price.
A delegation from various trawlers associations is already in Delhi to hold a meeting with the Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar demanding to withdraw the hike.
