The translation was done by Ira Pande and the book is published by Zubaan, the publishing house of feminist writer Urvashi Butalia. Dr Prabha Khaitan was a feminist writer, poet and social activist. She was also an entrepreneur.
Although she hailed from Churu (Rajasthan) she spent most of her life in Kolkata.
Her autobiography has been acknowledged as one of the most honest autobiographies.
Namita Gokhale, Director of Jaipur Literature Festival has written in the Foreword of the book: "Prabha Khaitan's story of her life and times is possibly one of the most honest books I have ever read. Sometimes it cuts too close to the bone for middle-class comfort and convenience. All her life she swam upstream, defying convention, defying prejudice, questioning choices."
