At least eight people were injured in a clash between supporters of the ruling Congress and main opposition party All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in Assam's Nagaon district on Sunday, officials said.
According to reports, the clashes between the supporters of the two political parties took place at Kachua area under Raha assembly constituency and also left three vehicles damaged.
The president of AIUDF and MP Badaruddin Ajmal delivered his speech in an election rally at Kachua as part of the party programme in the run up
to the panchayat poll in the state.
''After the rally, a bike rally was taken out by the supporters of Congress and reached the area and made slogans against the AIUDF,'' a district administration official said.
''The supporters of AIUDF protested the slogans and the situation soon spiraled out of control,'' the official said.
At least eight people were injured in the clash.
The security forces were forced to chanrge batons to control the situation.
The injured people were admitted to Nagaon civil hospital.
