Beat the blues by singing them!
Some tunes give us a lift by firing up the same parts of the brain as food and sex, researchers say.
Music-streaming site Rara.com used the results to compile an uplifting "Prozac playlist" named after the antidepressant drug that includes tracks by blues legends BB King and Muddy Waters.
"Although blues is considered downbeat, early blues has all the hallmarks of music that can make you smile," the Sun quoted Neuroscientist Dr Jack Lewis, who did the research, as saying.
"Let The Good Times Roll by B.B. King is a good example. The simple style of his music, with punchy yet predictable brass and percussion, get the brain's reward pathways firing," Lewis said.
The playlist also includes 'Sexy Dancer' by Prince, whose high pitched singing is a key to inducing happiness.
"Singers often communicate the 'happy' emotion using the upper register of their voices. When this rubs off on us, brain areas that control our vocal muscles get more active and you can find yourself singing along," Lewis added.
If the playlist's pop songs don't perk you up, try a bit of classical.
According to Lewis, music that gets your heart pumping like the thrilling climax to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture can enable the brain to cast worries away.
