Bhutan King meets Sonia Gandhi, Ansari, discusses issues of mutual interest
Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, who is currently on a state visit to India as the chief guest for this year's Republic Day parade and celebrations, called on Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi and later met Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari here on Friday.
Wangchuck and his wife were extended a warm welcome by Gandhi at her residence. Reportedly, they discussed matters of mutual interest.
Wangchuck and his wife also met Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also called on Vice President Ansari.
Delegation level informal talks marked the meeting with Vice President Ansari.
Earlier in a day, the Bhutanese royals were given a warm welcome by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's official residence.
Wangchuck and Queen Ashi Jetsun Pema are on an eight-day visit to India.
The Bhutan King also met External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
