Assam: Militants attack police station
The anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) continued its offensive strike against security forces ahead of the Republic Day, here.
Three Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the Kakopathar police station in Tinsukia district on Wednesday, which were lobbed by the outlawed group.
"The militants lobbed the grenades targeting the police station, but the grenades did not explode," a top police official said.
Top police officials rushed to the area and launched a search operation against the militant.
On Monday midnight, the outfit had attacked the Namtola police station in Sivsagar district, where a police constable was injured.
Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom led ULFA, anti talk-faction group of National Democratic front of Bodoland (NDFB) and another nine militant groups of northeastern region boycott the Republic Day and called for a general strike.
Assam police on Wednesday had declared high alert across the state and launched search operation against the militant.
"All the district police headquarters, police stations had ordered to vigil and take necessary action against the militant," Assam Police IGP (Law and Order) SN Singh said.
