MP's former min dead
Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Madhya Pradesh's former minister Manharanlal Pandey died today at a private hospital here following protracted illness.
He was 75. The leader was in the Intensive Care Unit for the past five days following a liver ailment. The cremation took place in Bilaspur.
Pandey -- who was elected five times to undivided Madhya Pradesh's Assembly prior to his election to the Lok Sabha from Janjgir-Champa in 1996 -- was first inducted as minister of state for Power in 1968 and again as Home and Irrigation Minister in 1977. He played a key role in Chhattisgarh's creation.
In a message, Chief Minister Raman Singh said, "Mr Pandey was a social worker who dedicated his public life for welfare of the people."
