Obama takes oath for 2nd term as US President
Barack Obama was on Sunday sworn in as President of the US for a second term at a private ceremony in the White House.
"I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States," the 44th President of the US said.
According to the Constitution, his first term as President ended at noon on Sunday. The oath for his second term was administered at 11.55am.
The ceremony was a private one because it was a Sunday.
The public swearing in will take place on the west steps of the US Capitol on Monday.
This would be the seventh time in the history of the country that a president will take the oath ceremonially on Monday after taking it officially on a Sunday.
