'Shinde has made irresponsible remark without any basis': Arun Jaitley
: Taking on the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde over his allegation against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of promoting 'Hindu-Terror', Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Sunday said that it is an irresponsible and baseless remark.
"The BJP and the RSS are the highly patriotic and nationalist organisations, our stand against terrorism has been well known and therefore, for the Home Minister, who has access to all the facts to make the irresponsible statement like this is neither done credit to the virtue of truth nor to the serious office that he holds," said Jaitley, while talking to reporters here.
"It's highly improper for the Home Minister of this country to make an irresponsible statement without any basis. Messing up with the agencies has been a habit of this government," he added.
Earlier in the day, Shinde stirred a major controversy when he alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were running training camps with the objective of promoting 'Hindu-Terror' across the country.
To prove his point, Shinde cited the examples of the Samjhauta Express blast (February 18, 2007), the Mecca Masjid (May 18, 2007) and Malegaon explosions (September 8, 2006.)
Later, issuing some sort of clarification, Shinde said whatever he said has already appeared in the media several times over the years and that there was nothing new in it.
He said he had made a reference to "Saffron Terrorism" and appeared to reject the view that he had used the words "Hindu Terror".
