Rahul Gandhi favours objective decision on Pak
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that India's decisions on Pakistan cannot be influenced by emotions as ties between the two neighbours go through turbulence following the heightened tensions along the border.
Speaking on the final day of the two-day conference of the Congress party in Jaipur as part of the panel that presented its views on "India and the World", Gandhi said taking tough steps and showing emotions are two different things.
"We should take tough steps but not be emotional in our response," Gandhi said, on a day when the 42-year-old party poster boy was named the Congress Vice President.
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, who also participated in the discussion, advocated "balance" in dealing with such provocative situations, media reports said.
Ties between the two nuclear armed neighbours deteriorated last week over border firing and killing of two Indian soldiers, including the beheading of one of the martyrs by Pakistani troops.
Pakistan has, however, denied its soldiers killed or beheaded any Indian soldiers.
