The Maharashtra cabinet today decided to waive the entertainment tax of all the single-screen cinema theatres in rural areas of the state. The state has 549 single-screen cinema halls and out of which 80 to 100 are in rural areas.
The tax will be waived for five years in a, b and c municipalities for five years, while in rural areas for seven years, it was announced.
The cabinet also approved a project of Rs 6,500 crore for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation's infrastructure (2) project. This will benefit 4.88 lakh agriculture pumps, 23 lakh domestic consumers and 58,000 industrial consumers.
The cabinet also noted that the dams in the state has 48 percent stock of water and it has increased the number of tankers to supply water to scarcity-affected areas.
