Former football star Neil Rudduck was drafted in to replace Jim Davidson on Celebrity Big Brother on Friday after the comedian's arrest threw the reality show into a complete pandemonium.

Ex-England defender Ruddock was called in just hours before the Channel 5 launch, as police in investigation of the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal held Davidson, the Sun reports.

TV bosses were left scrambling to find a replacement after deciding the 59-year-old could not take part.

They signed up Ruddock, who had entered the jungle for I'm A Celebrity in 2004.

Davidson's absence was a huge blow for the Big Brother production team, who were banking on him as the show's big name.

Ruddock played for Spurs and Liverpool, winning one England cap, before becoming a TV personality.
