BJP leader wants Marathwada region declared as drought-hit
Senior BJP leader and MP of Beed district, Mr Gopinath Munde today demanded that the entire Marathwada region, comprising eight districts, be declared as drought affected area by the state government.
Addressing a press conference, Mr Munde said this year about 75 per cent area in the entire state was reeling under drought like situation, specially the Marathwada region that has been facing acute drinking water shortage. Due to less rainfall this monsoon, only 15 per cent live water stock was remaining in the dams of the region. Presently, 500 Water tankers are supplying drinking water to the affected areas in the region and it is expected to go up to 2000 tankers during summer.
To tackle the problem, he demanded release of Rs 3000 crore instead of Rs 425 crore, which was initially planned by the state government for the purpose in the region.
BJP has certain demands, including waiving off the electricity bills from the farmers, recovery of water supply scheme, setting up cattle camps in the region and start up of EGS works at village level. "If government does not consider our demands within eight days. BJP will start public agitation in this regard", he added.
He claimed people in several villages in Beed district were migrating to other places in search for works in order to earn their bread and butter.
