Punjab warns travel agents against misleading ads
The Punjab government today issued new guidelines regarding the publication of advertisement according to the directions of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Press Council of India and warned those who were luring innocent people with the promise of jobs abroad.
Stating this here today, an official spokesman said as per section 16 of the Emigration Act 1983, only registered recruiting agents and genuine foreign employers with valid permit were allowed to advertise and recruit Indian citizens for overseas jobs.
He said that it was also mandatory to indicate their permit number while publishing the advertisement. But it had been found by the MOIA that the publication of advertisements regarding overseas employment/jobs are published by unauthorised foreign employees or recruiting agents.
He said now the PCI had issued guidelines regarding the publication of such kind of advertisements.
He said that advertisements should contain the registration certificate number/permit number with full address including telephone no, post box no, email address.
He said name of the employer, his central registration no, telephone no and email ID were required along with the name of the destination country.
The spokesman said no fee towards processing application or for any other purpose should be charged from the applicant. Besides, the name of the posts/jobs, number of positions/vacancies in each category and the salary offered to each category of job should also be included in the advertisement.
