The Odisha government has decided to construct 50 mini stadiums at block level during this fiscal in a bid to promote sports.
Sports and Youth Services Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi said the construction of each stadium will be taken up at a cost of Rs 25 lakh each.
The Sport and Youth Services Department has allocated Rs 4.53 crore in the state budget for the purpose.
Sources said while Rs 10 lakh would be dovetailed from MGNREGA, the Sports and Youth Services Department would provide Rs 10 lakh Rs 5 lakh would be sourced from MP/MLA LAD fund or from any other sources.
This will be implemented on first come first serve basis.
The Block authority will identify the land and assure the MP/MLA LAD fund for the implementation of the project.
Blocks uncovered under PYKKA scheme of Central Government will be taken-up in this pilot project.
The Block where 5 acres of land is available will be given priority for this project.
The proposed mini stadiums would have separate toilets for men and women, changing room, multi purpose hall, drinking water provision, signage, compound wall .
