Odisha government today banned the consumption, manufacture, sale and distribution of tobacco in the state.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout said a notification would be issued in a couple of days.
Dr Rout said the government took the decision in the wake of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey that said tobacco is associated with oral cancer and India has the maximum incidents of oral cancer in the world.
Several other states like Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Maharashtra have also banned manufacture, sale and distribution of tobacco.
