The Delhi gangrape victim undergoing treatment in Singagpore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital is extremely critical, the hospital said on Friday.
"As at 28 Dec, 11 am (Singapore time) the patient continues to remain in an extremely critical condition. She is still receiving treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital's Intensive Care Unit," Dr. Kelvin Loh, the hospital's chief executive, said
"Our medical team's investigations upon her arrival at the hospital yesterday showed that in addition to her prior cardiac arrest, she also had infection of her lungs and abdomen, as well as significant brain injury. The patient is currently struggling against the odds, and fighting for her life," said Dr Loh.
"A multi-disciplinary team of specialists has been working tirelessly to treat her since her arrival, and is doing everything possible to stabilise her condition over the next few days," he said.
He said the High Commission of India has been fully supportive in helping the hospital and her family, and ensuring that the best care is made available.
The Indian High Commission in Singapore said it is in touch with the medical team treating the patient and also with the family members.
"The family is deeply appreciative of the many messages of sympathy and support that have come in. The High Commission would, however, again request that the privacy of the family members be respected," a press release from the High Commission said.
The 23-year-old medical student who was raped and brutalised by six men on a moving bus in Delhi on Dec 16, was shifted to the Singapore hospital which specializes in multi-organ transplant procedures.
Large parts of the victim's intestines were removed as a result of the injuries she suffered from the attack.
The victim has already undergone three surgeries and a cardiac arrest earlier.
The girl was flown in a highly equipped air ambulance to the Singapore hospital where earlier Southern superstar Rajinikanth was treated besides politicians like Amar Singh.
As the condition of the woman remained worrying, authorities have been under tremendous pressure from all fronts as the incident sparked protests nationwide.
A police constable also purportedly lost his life this week following violence that broke out at one such protest at India Gate in New Delhi.
The 23-year-old woman was raped and brutalized with an iron rod on a moving bus and then thrown off the vehicle along with his male companion on Dec 16 when she was returning home after a film show.
