Odisha Minority Forum (OMF) president, Swarupananda Patra today criticised the speech of Biju Chatra Janata Dal president Byomkesh Ray equiating Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with Lord Jesus Christ.
In a statement here Dr Patra said Mr Ray at the 15th year celebration meeting of the BJD equated Mr Patnaik with Lord Jesus Christ, stating that as Europe found salvation in Lord Jesus Christ, similarly Odisha found salvation from the darkness through Mr Patnaik.
Castigating this blasphemous statement, Dr Patra said the Christians not only in Odisha and India, but also across the world would be pained by this sacrilegious statement by the BJD leader in presence of Mr Patnaik equating him with Lord Jesus Christ.
He added it was shocking that Mr Naveen Patnaik, who was on the dais was just nodding away happily. This shows the scant respect that Naveen Patnaik has towards minorities, the OMF President said.
Dr Patra said using the name of Lord Jesus Christ for political gains is highly condemned by all the Christians in Odisha, India and beyond.
It was the responsibility of the Chief Minister to clarify before the same audience that he would not prefer any comparison to Lord Jesus Christ.
But by keeping silent, Mr Patnaik has alluded to his sacrilegious statement, he said and demanded that Mr Patnaik should clarify before the state and the nation that it was an aberration and that he does not hold such a view.
