Northern Railway capitalised on most of the chances which came their way as they ousted Punjab Police by 4-2 in the 42nd SN Vohra's All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.
Northern Railway forged ahead in the 14th minute when Jasjeet Singh converted a penalty corner. Punjab Police, once a powerful outfit in the country, neutralized the lead in four minutes after resumption (39th minute) as Harinder Singh converted penalty corner.
Northern Railway were again shot into the lead through Jasjeet Singh who scored a fine field goal in the 44th minute. S Basen made it 3-1 for Northern Railway with a field goal.
Struggling to bounce back into the game, Punjab Police got their second goal in 67th minute Harmanbir Singh who converted a penalty corner. One minute before the hooter, Northern Railway forced a penalty corner and Sajjan Singh made no mistake in converting it.
Northern Railway were awarded two penalty corners which they converted. Punjab Police forced penalty corners in the 31st, 39th, 40th and 67th.
In the second match, Rail Coach Factory of Kapurthala prevailed over Surjit Academy of Jalandhar by 2-1.
It was Surjit Hockey Academy which drew the first blood though Harjeet Sigh who scored a field goal in the 31st minute. Down by a goal, Rail Coach Factory dominated the second half and scored through Deepak Kumar (43rd) and Sandeep Singh (69th).
In another match Indian Air Force outplayed Indo-Tibetan Border Police by 4-1.
Enjoying an upper hand throughout the encounter, Air Force scored through Lovepreet (13th, penalty corner, 64th), Sanwar (22nd) and Aalam (51st). Lakhwainder Singh got the solitary goal for ITBP.
