The opposition congress in Punjab today suffered a setback when party MLA Joginder Pal Jain resigned from assembly and joined the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Mr Jain, who had defeated former Punjab DGP P S Gill (SAD) in Moga in assembly election in January this year, was inducted in SAD in the presence of party president and Deputy Chif Minister Sukhbir singh Badal.
Mr Jain had tendered his resignation to Assembly Speaker Charanjit singh Atwal earlier this morning. The Speaker accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
