Baba Ramdev, V K Singh booked for rape stir
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and former Army chief V K Singh have been charged by the Delhi Police for inciting a mob and provoking crowd at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday, media reports said.
Three cases of rioting over the agitation held to protest the gang-rape of a woman in New Delhi where the protesters clashed with police for preventing them from marching towards India Gate, have also been registered.
Police had stopped Ramdev and Singh when they started marching towards India Gate after a brief speech at Jantar Mantar and cordoned off the area as the protesters sat at the spot.
Some of the protesters however tried to break the barricades apparently prompting the police to resort to force causing a scuffle that wounded two people seriously.
Protests had flared across India last week after a 23-year-old medical student was brutally assaulted and raped by six men on a moving bus in New Delhi and then thrown off along with her male friend on the night of Nov 16.
The victim, currently being treated at the Safdarjung Hospital, is reported to be conscious and responding to treatment, but doctors said that they were worried about the infection in her blood.
