Hillary Clinton has reportedly issued a statement endorsing US President Barack Obama's nomination of Senator John Kerry to succeed her as the next US Secretary of State.

She said that she was 'privileged' to have known John for many years and believes that he would 'decades of service' to the US, Politico reports.

According to the report, Clinton said that 'diplomacy is in the blood' of Kerry, whose father also was a foreign service officer.

She said that she hopes Senator Kerry will be confirmed as the next Secretary of State 'quickly'.

She said Kerry "knows what it takes to defend our nation and our values. As a leader in the Senate, he understands how to build coalitions and craft compromises," the report said.

Clinton also said that a statesman respected around the world, Kerry would be able to sustain and extend America's global leadership, the report added.
