Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday hit out at the Centre and said the Delhi gangrape incident showed there was complete break down of law and order in the national capital.
He said the issue of law and order was the last item in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's agenda.
"There is total breakdown of law and order in the national capital," Badal said while addressing the concluding session of the First All India Commissioners of Police Conference here.
Badal made the comments on a day when thousands of protesters demanding justice for the Delhi gangrape victim intensified their agitation and fought pitched battles with the Delhi Police, taking their movement to the doorstep of the President of India at Raisina Hill in the national capital on Saturday.
The Delhi Police unleashed batons, water cannons and fired teargas shells at the agitators comprising of students and women, when they marched towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Badal condemned the lathicharge incident.
