Himachal MLA booked in murder case
A newly-elected Himachal Pradesh MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary has been booked in a murder case, the Panchkula Police said on Saturday.
According to reports, Chaudhary has gone underground after he was booked in the case.
The police on Saturday raided Chaudhary's residence and other suspected hideouts at Sandholi village in Himachal Pradesh but failed to nab the first-time Congress MLA from Doon constituency in Solan district of the state.
"The MLA along with three others is wanted in connection with the murder of a young girl. Jyoti, a native of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, was found dead in Panchkula on November 22," NDTV reported.
"As per the post mortem report, she died of head injuries and had had an abortion recently," the report said.
Jyoti's father, Booti Ram, said in case the police fail to nab the accused then he will go to court.
"Police are not doing anything. I will go to court to get justice," Booti Ram told the news channel.
Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is all set to meet on Saturday to elect Himachal Pradesh's next chief minister.
Chaudhary is unlikely to attend it.
Congress leader Virbhadra Singh on Thursday sailed back into power in Himachal Pradesh, scoring a wafer-thin majority of 36 in the 68-member Assembly attributed mainly to an anti-incumbency wave.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to score only 26 seats in the assembly elections.
