Hong Kong police probe Jackie Chan's arms use

Police in Hong Kong are investigating movie star Jackie Chan after he said in an interview that he used pistols and grenades to defend himself from the triads, organized crime groups, media reports said Thursday.

Chan claimed that he found himself surrounded by 20 killers armed with knives and brandished two handguns and six grenades, the South China Morning Post said.

The martial arts star, who is known for his controversial statements to media outlets in China and Hong Kong, said actors in the former British colony were often the targets of extortion rackets, justifying the use of firearms for self-defense.

Chan, however, praised certain types of robberies in the same interview, saying that "if you can take gold from HSBC (the largest bank in Hong Kong) without hurting anybody, you are a genius and it's marvelous".

Possessing an unlicensed firearm in Hong Kong is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
