Cops lathi charge, fire tear gas shells on rape protesters
Police resorted to lathi charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse protesting crowds at Raisina Hill here on Saturday.
Thousands of protesters gathered at India Gate and Raisina Hill in the morning waving posters and shouting slogans demanding that those responsible for the Delhi gang rape incident be brought to justice.
The demonstrators, most of the youngsters, shouted slogans such as "We want justice" and broke police barricades in the high security zone.
Earlier, police used water canons to disperse them. But that did not work.
Near the Rashtrapati Bhawan, police personnel were seen trying their best to keep the surging protesters from breaking security barricades.
Latest reports said the sixth accused, who was arrested from Aurangabad in Bihar on Friday, will be produced in court this afternoon.
The 23-year-old victim continues to be critical, though she has been taken off the ventilator.
