Three thousand College students from 15 Colleges across the City tookout a morcha this afternoon to oppose the toll charges for 45 kms City main roads, built by IRB Company.
Students gathered at historical Dasdara Chowk for the morcha, organised by Students Action Committee (SAC) and Kolhapur City and District all party Action Committee (AC) against the toll.
Students, including girls and boys raised slogans against toll and IRB Company as 'Denar nahi denar nahi toll amhi denar nahi' (we will not give toll), after passing through the main streets, morcha reached District collector's office.
A delegation led by Shreedhar Patil, President of Students Council, Shivaji University, met Sanjay Pawar, Assistant District Collector. and handed over a memorandum of their demands.
According to Nivas Salokhe, President of AC, the intention of the morcha was to create awareness in the College students, about toll and to register their protest against it.
IRB Infrastructures Development signed an agreement with State Government and KMC to construct 45 km City approach roads, scheduled to start toll collection from December last year, but the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan stayed it.
