Punjab assembly adjourned sine die
The Punjab assembly was adjourned sine die today on the conclusion of its five-day winter sesssion which turned out be stormy.
Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal adjourned the House sine die after the legislative business today wherein it passed 16 new bills and withdrew existing two bills amid boycott of the assembly proceedings by the opposition Congress since yesterday in protest against suspension of party member Rana Gurjit Singh.
The Speaker had suspended Rana Gurjit Singh on Wednesday for the remaining part of the session for allegedly hurling abuses at Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia during a debate on law and order situation in the state.
However, the Congress maintained that it was Mr Majithia who had actually hurled an abuse against Rana Gurjit Singh and the former should tender an apology on the floor of the House. They also arranged a public screening of CDs yesterday wherein Mr Majithia was allegedly using the abusive language.
