Rio 2016: Mineirao construction completed
The construction completion ceremony for the Governador Magalhães Pinto Stadium, Mineirão, will be held on Friday.
The stadium, which was renovated for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, will be one of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games football headquarters.
The Mineirão closed for two and a half years and is ready right on time.
Thanks to the renovation, the stadium counts 64 thousand seats, 90 box seats, a restaurant with a view of the field and VIP area lounges. The parking area counts 2.8 thousand spaces and the press area has a 3 thousand journalist capacity.
Now, the stadium has an esplanade, an 80 thousand m2 outdoor area with a 65 thousand person capacity around the stadium.
It will be one of the great public spaces in Belo Horizonte, a suspended park with seven thousand m2 for commercial activities, with restaurants, bars and shops.
Among the amenities of the New Mineirão is the roof equipped with technology to capture solar energy and transform it into electricity. In addition, rainwater is reused.
The stadium also counts a six million litre reservoir, able to supply part of the Mineirão for three months.
